Running a security business requires up-to-date knowledge across finance, tax, record keeping, workforce management and cybersecurity. But there is support available to business operators – a suite of free online short courses is available through the Australian Tax Office’s (ATO) Small Business Education Hub.
These courses are designed to “fill a knowledge gap in as little as 12 minutes”, making them practical for busy owners, managers and administrative staff in the security industry. Importantly, the modules cover areas directly relevant to licensed security providers, including:
- Managing cash flow, debt, income and expenses.
- Tax and superannuation obligations.
- Effective record-keeping.
- Hiring and paying workers.
- Cybersecurity and protecting business data.
With more than 30 short courses, the Education Hub supports new, growing, and established businesses. Many modules include practical examples, checklists, and tools that can help improve compliance and reduce administrative risk — key priorities for all SPAAL members.
For security providers navigating award obligations, taxation requirements, payroll systems, and digital risk, these resources offer a simple way to build capability and stay informed.
SPAAL encourages members to explore the ATO’s Small Business Education Hub and share relevant modules with their teams.
