Security guards at major shopping centres across Australia and New Zealand will be required to wear body-worn cameras.

It comes a year on from the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing attack that killed six people.

A spokesperson from Scentre Group, which operates 42 Westfield malls, said the recording devices were being rolled out to improve the safety and security of their customers and staff.

Scentre Group has previously introduced security measures, including stab-proof vests, since Joel Cauchi’s attack in the Sydney shopping centre.

The Queensland man was shot dead on April 13, 2024, after murdering Ashlee Good, Dawn Singleton, Jade Young, Pikria Darchia, security guard Faraz Tahir, and a Chinese national whose family has asked she not be named.
