Under an amendment to the Police Act 1990 (section 209), which takes effect on 1 January 2023, NSW Police will charge a penalty for false alarm responses. The NSW Police Force has allowed a three-month grace period (1 January-31 March 2023) where the penalty will remain at $200 to enable alarm monitoring companies to notify customers of the change.
From 1 April 2023, the penalty will increase to $1,600 as prescribed in the Act.
